OET test format & Structure
OET (Occupational English Test) is an international English language test designed specifically for healthcare professionals. It is designed to assess the English language proficiency of healthcare professionals who need to practice in an English-speaking environment. OET is a highly trusted and respected language test, accepted by more than 20 countries in the world and more than 1000 healthcare organisations.
The OET test format consists of four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The test takes place in a computer-delivered format, meaning that all four components of the test are taken on the same day. The content of the test is based on real-life healthcare scenarios, and the test is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B.
Part A of the OET test format consists of the Listening and Reading skills. The Listening section of the test consists of 60 minutes of audio recordings of healthcare related conversations and talks. The recordings are played twice and the test taker is required to answer 40 multiple-choice &Â filling the gap questions. The Reading section consists of 40 minutes of reading comprehension questions based on texts related to healthcare.
Part B of the OET test format consists of the Writing and Speaking skills. The Writing section consists of a letter-writing task and a short-answer task. The letter-writing task requires test takers to write a letter in response to a healthcare-related scenario. The short-answer task requires test takers to answer questions related to a given healthcare scenario. The Speaking section is a face-to-face conversation with an OET examiner. The conversation is based on healthcare topics and test takers are required to answer questions posed by the examiner.
